How many times a day should I feed my dog?

The full daily quantity to be given to the animal must be divided in at least two meals.

What is the correct amount of food should I provide for my dog?

The amount of food given to your dog varies as per weight, age, physical activity level and energy quantity in the food. In the back of the package you will find a daily consumption suggestion for the food. Another way to get this more precise information is through the Pet Phone (0800 55 66 66).

Do not give food to your dog as he wishes it, and be aware that he may eat much more than he should, which may lead to obesity, and nutrient excesses can speed up weight gain and cause bone problems in animals of big/giant breeds like the Danish, Rottweiler and the Brazilian Fila, for instance.

Is it necessary to add water or milk to the food?

We recommend adding water only to the Weaning Gruel, which must be given to puppies from 21 to 60 days of age (3 to 8 weeks). From this age up the puppy is ready to ingest solid food, which will help to clean its teeth and prevent tartar formation. Once humidified, the food must be eaten in the next 40 minutes, because after this period it may undergo fermentation, with bacterial proliferation, which may cause your puppy to have diarrhea.

Should my dog eat the same that I do?

Do not forget that the dog has nutritional habits and needs very different from yours. The dog is a carnivore like the wolf, his closer cousin in nature. Human beings are omnivore, which means that they can exploit ingredients of both animal and vegetable origins. So, do not give your dog the food that you eat.

Should I give supplemental food to my dog?

Feeding must provide all essential nutrients to give your adult dog a perfect health.

Some years ago, industrialized foods did not provide all these nutrients, and so vets had to prescribe supplements and minerals. Today, most foods spare these supplements.

Give preference to products of Premium and Super Premium quality, which do not need any type of supplements and that are characterized by higher nutrient concentration (energy, protein, minerals, and vitamins, as for the product weight) and better digestibility, providing greater absorption of these nutrients.

This way, dogs fed with this higher concentration products will eat less quantities, because they are more concentrated, producing less feces and in smaller amounts and with less smell, developing healthier and prettier fur, besides having a better rperformance.

For how long should I leave the food in the dog bowl?

Up to and around one hour, when you must take any leftovers away. At times, your dog may “jump” some meals, but take him to the vet if he refuses to eat 3 consecutive meals or if he presents alterations like vomit and diarrhea, for example.

Can I give the dog tidbits?

Avoid giving “small prizes” and other tidbits to your dog. Dos are very intelligent animals. If every time he refuses to eat one food or another we give him one that is tastier, he will develop habits more and more choosy and will become “fastidious” about food. The need to vary the food is typically a human behavior.
