In addition to the treatment prescribed by the veterinarian, some food alterations may be beneficial to patients with chronic renal disease.
The objectives of the diet are: to minimize the symptoms resulting from the retention of toxic substances and the loss of important elements in urine, reduce the progression of the disease, protect the renal tissue which is still healthy, prevent the formation of oxalate calcium renal calculi.
In the case of chronic renal disease, this food should be used under professional supervision during the extent of the animal’s life.
Lower levels of phosphorous: Lower levels of phosphorous minimize the accumulation of phosphorous in the blood and consequently slow down the progression of renal disease.
Moderately elevated Bas Excess: Prevents excessive acidity in the blood and the formation of oxalate calcium renal calculi.
EPA+DHA Low level of sodium and high level of potassium: These compounds of the omega 3 family protect the kidneys, improving blood circulation, reducing inflammation and the progression of the disease.
